The Mother company,Al-Zaim Grain Trade , started its work in Syria in the 1930s by
its founder, Haji Saad al-Din al-Zaim.
The Company’s activity were in parallel with the grain trade activity in Syria at that stage.
In which Agriculture was the basis of the Syrian economy and 75% of the population worked and
currently about 40%.
The company was founded by its founder Saad al-Din al-Zaim and his sons in 1939 in Hama, which
ranked first in Syria in the export of grain He served as President of the Syrian Grain Exporters' Union in
1956 - 1959.
Haji Saad al-Din al-Zaim The company initially worked to store grains (wheat, wheat and barley) in special
warehouses to be sold out in the Syrian market (Aleppo, Hama, Damascus).
Between 1947 and 1967, the work was developed by Hamdi , Hekmatand Ziad al-Zaim,
sons of Sa'd al-Din al-Zaim.
They worked on purchasing grain crops from the Syrian farms and carrying out commercial transactions through
the company's office in the market and exporting them to Europe through the port of Latakia
Work continued at this pace until the early fifties and industrial boom until the nationalization period in
Syria.
United Company for Import and ExportUnixem
In the summer of 1964, the Brotherhood moved to Lebanon and
established the United Company for Import and Export (Unixem ) in Beirut
to complete its activities.
The company resumed its operations in 2004
In 2009 the company merged with the Al-Muhaidib group and platinum

In order to store and collect grains and put them on the market the company in 2010 built a silo facility (Obial, Turkish company) in the city of Tartous, which built:

Six Flat bottom Silos (50,000 ton).

Four CONICAL-BOTTOM SILOSFor storage of grain in the short and temporary term and for easy unloading of grain within the mechanisms and trucks.
Quality Control
The company is concerned with the safety and quality of the imported and exported grain.
The company has a quality laboratory in its main center for the following purposes:

Inspection of products types delivered to Grain Silos Organization by taking representative samples and visually examine them to ensure they are free from insects, fertilizers, mold and any other abnormal changes that can be detected visually.

Thereafter, analysis is done including specific gravity, impurities percentage, moisture content and protein ratio to ensure compliance of products to the approved specification. In addition, tests are made to ensure the validity of products and other derivatives.

Inspection of end products periodically during storage in silos.

Testing of components used in fodder processing to ensure its quality and conformance with approved specifications before receiving them from the supplier.
Location
The company is located in Tartous, 5 km south of Tartous port. The company's capacity is estimated at at least 250,000 tons per year.
